Single flight stair I – Constructing a single flight stair. (W-E)

In this tutorial, we will construct a single flight stair. Let us study the drawing. The grid lines are at 4000 millimeters. Open any elevation. The levels are at 3000 millimeters. Open the 3D view. 300 millimeters thick structural floor is from level 1 to level 8.
Let us come back to level 1. My aim is to construct a stair from grid 2 to grid 3. The stair is going to climb from level 1 to level 2. While constructing a stair we should prefer a sectional or an elevation or the 3D view.
Let us open the south elevation. I am going to construct the stair from left to right. From the stair menu, open single flight stair tool. In the dialogue box, select grid A for the east-west grid. Select grid 2 for the north-south grid. Select level 1 & level 2 as bottom & top level. The number of risers is 17. Tread length is 250. Stair width is 1000. Let the waist slab thickness be 250 millimeters. Select right run for the stair run. Write the mark as per your requirement. The right direction arrow is already selected. That means the stair is going to climb from left to right that is west to east. My stair starts with a riser & ends with a riser. Hit okay key. InstaCrete prompts to select the bottom floor. Then select the top floor. The software uses the structural foundation family to build the stair. Now we will have to save that family at a proper place. Select the proper folder to save the file in the dialogue box. Name the family & hit the save button. We see a warning message saying that “opening not cutting anything.” Click the cancel button. We can see the stair is not constructed.  Why did this happen? We will build a proper stair to analyse this. Reopen the dialogue box in the elevation view. Repeat all the settings which we used last time except, select grid c for the east-west grid. We can see a proper stair in the drawing.
Let us study the drawing. We can see 17 risers & stair is starting & ending with the riser. Let us open the 3D view. Select the stair & hide it. We can see the cut on the bottom & top floor. Now open the level 1 view. Measure the cut. It is 900 by 1000 that is the width of the stair. I will revert back to south view. We can see a proper smooth joint between the stair & the floor. A long-standing issue of the joint between stair & the floor has been resolved. Although we see joint lines in the top & elevation view.

Single flight stair II - Constructing a single flight stair (E-W)

In this tutorial, I will add a stair from east to west. Open the south elevation. Open the dialogue box. In the dialogue box, select grid C for the east-west grid. Let the offset be 2000. Select grid 5 for the north-south grid. Select level 1 & level 2 as bottom & top level. The number of risers is 16. Tread length is 250. Stair width is 1000. Let the waist slab thickness be 260 millimeters. Select center run for the stair run. Write the mark as per your requirement. Select the left arrow. That means the stair is going to climb from right to left that is east to west. My stair starts with a riser & ends with a tread. Hit okay key. InstaCrete prompts to select the bottom floor. press the escape key on the keyboard. Then select the top floor. The software uses the structural foundation family to build the stair. Now we will have to save that family at a proper place. Select the proper folder to save the file in the dialogue box. Name the family & hit the save button. Observe the stair. There are 16 risers. The stair starts with a riser & ends with tread. Open the 3D view. Observe the shape of the stair near the bottom floor. We did not select the bottom floor while constructing the stair. Open the level 1 view. Measure the distance from “c” grid to center of the stair. Confirm it as 2000 millimeters.

Single flight stair III - Copying a stair.

In this video tutorial, we copy a stair. Open the south elevation. We will copy the west-east stair to the upper floors. From the stair menu open the stair manager. The top right portion of the dialogue box helps us to copy the stair. Select the mark of the stair from the pulldown menu. As the stair is from level 1, select level 1 for the bottom level. For “to bottom level” select level 5. That means the stair will be copied from level 1 to level 5. InstaCrete considers the bottom level of the stair while copying it. Hit the okay button. Go on selecting the floors carefully.
Open the stair manager. Select the mark from the section, show stair records. The record of the particular stair is shown in the table. Select none for the mark on the fifth floor. Click the okay button. You can see the stair on the fifth floor is deleted.
