Multi-level column part I – Placing & attaching data to it.
In this video session, we will see, placing columns in the drawing using multi-level column tool & attaching the data to the column.
Multi-level column & single level column are the two tools to place the columns in the drawing area.
Multi-level column tool places columns at multiple levels. Let us add six levels to the project file using the level tool. After adding the levels, click the multi-level column tool.
In the dialogue box, click select grid text box. You can see all the grid points in the list. We have to select the grid point to place the column. Let us select the A1 point.
The foundation box displays the foundation size which is there on the A1 grid. This place remains blank in case there is no foundation.
In the table select the column size. Select the base level as level 1. The base offset value is minus 500 millimetres. Select the top-level as Level two. Zero be the offset value for top, x & y offsets.
Type C1 as the user name. Select Phase one & M40 as the concrete mix.
Go on selecting the top level of the column. Other data repeats itself.
Click the okay button to place the columns.
Open the three “D” view. And now open the elevation view & observe the columns. The foundation on A1 moves below level one by 500 millimetres. Select the footing & confirm the minus 500 value below the level one from the property tool palette.
Multi-level column part II – Placing multi-level columns with “x” & “y” symmetry.
In this video tutorial, we will place columns using offset values & x-y symmetry. We will be using multi-level column tool.
Open the tool & in the multi-level column manager box select, x-symmetry. Choose A2 in the Select grid text box. Select column 600 by 750. Let Level 1 & Level 2 be the base & top-level respectively with zero offset values.
Now, I will select column size as 400 by 750 with x-offset as minus 100 millimetres with top-level as level 3. Hit okay button. In the drawing, we can see the columns one above the other with the offset value.
We will once again open the multi-level column manager to see the behaviour of Y-symmetry. Select y-symmetry. Choose B1 in the Select grid text box. Select column 600 by 750. Let Level 1 & Level 2 be the base & top-level respectively with zero offset values.
Now, I will select column size as 600 by 550 with y-offset as 100 millimetres with level 3 as the top level. Hit okay button. In the drawing, we can see the columns one above the other with the offset value.
Editing the columns.
In this video tutorial, we will edit the Columns.
Let us observe this sample file in the 3D view. We can see there are a few columns in the drawing. The columns are at different heights.
It is difficult to judge column levels from the 3D view. We have to select the particular column & see its top level in the property palette. Or we will have to open the elevation views to judge the height.
Open the multi-level column manager. Select the grid point. Say A1. You can see the details of the column from the table. It’s size, the topmost level, it’s a phase, using a concrete mix and so on. Now let us open details at A3 gid. Use next & previous buttons to navigate through the dialogue box.
Or let us use select level text box. Suppose, you want to change the size of the column at level thirty-two. Select level thirty-two in the box. The table shows the details of the column at the grid A3 at level thirty-two. Change the size of the column, change the phase or concrete mix & click the okay button.
Reopen the dialogue box. Select C3 from the user name drop-down list. The details of the column can be seen in the table. Use the next button. Change the size of the column at level thirty-two. Hit the okay button.
Deleting the columns.
Let us delete columns using “x” & “y” symmetry. We will use the multi-level column tool. We will be deleting columns which are at A2, F2, B1& B6.
Open the multi-level column manager. Select the “x” symmetry. Select A2 from the drop-down list. In the column type select none. Hit the okay button.
Reopen the dialogue box. Select “y” symmetry. Select B1 from the drop-down list. In the column type select none. Hit the okay button.
Observe the drawing. You can see, the columns at A2 & F2, B1 & B6 have been deleted. Very easy. Isn’t it?
